Child Centric Disaster Risk Reduction (CCDRR)
About
The Child Centric Disaster Risk Reduction Centre (CCDRR) is a specialized unit of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India established in collaboration with UNICEF, India. The Centre has been fully functional since December 2018. CCDRR is promoted as a Centre of Excellence with the aim of achieving ‘Zero Tolerance for Children at Risk’. At the heart of our mission lies a profound commitment to the safety, well-being and resilience of children in the face of emergencies and disasters. CCDRR aligns all its operations with the vision of Sendai Framework of Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Paris Agreement, Hon’ble Prime Minister’s 10 Point Agenda on DRR and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Child (UNCRC).
Our Vision
"To forge a future where children stand resilient in the face of contemporary and future disaster risks, their rights upheld and their potential unlocked while championing sustainable development that nurtures generations to come for lasting safety and wellbeing for children for a brighter and more equitable future."
Our Mission
"Our mission is to champion child-centric disaster risk reduction, advance child, adolescent and youth-led climate action and achieve zero tolerance for children at risk in disasters and emergencies. We are committed to creating a secure and sustainable future where every child is safe, resilient and empowered to thrive in the face of adversity."
Guiding Principles
CCDRR is firmly committed to a child-centric perspective, recognizing that children are among the most vulnerable during disasters and deserve special attention and protection. Gender-sensitive principles ensure that the unique needs and capacities of both girls and boys are taken into account, addressing the specific challenges they may face in disaster-affected areas. We also recognize the complementarity between women and children and acknowledge the role female leadership can play in child centric DRR. Disability inclusiveness means that our strategies and programmes are accessible and accommodating to children with disabilities. Finally, our youth-oriented approach intends to empower the children and youth to actively participate in disaster preparedness and response efforts, harnessing their energy and creativity for a more resilient future. By adhering to these principles and focusing on intersectionality of vulnerability, we strive to create a safer, more equitable and inclusive, where no child is left behind in times of crisis.
