Disaster Reduction Day, 12th October 2011
NIDM observed "Disaster Reduction Day" on the 12th October, 2011 at New Delhi on the lines of International Day for Disaster Reduction which is observed in October every year. Shri Mullappally Ramachandran, Hon'ble Minister of State for Home Affairs, was the Chief Guest of the function. Other guests who graced the occasion were Dr. Muzaffar Ahmed, Hon'ble Member, National Disaster Management Authority of Govt. of India, Shri A. E. Ahmed, Secretary to Government of India for Border Management and Shri Rajendra Singh (Ramon Magsaysay Awardee) and many other dignitaries, officials, children. Representatives of Civil Society, UN, NGO & World Bank also participated in the event. Various activities, poster & painting competition, slogan writing - hindi & english were organized for school children at various schools. Winners were given prizes by the Chief Guest in the programme. Rallies and special lectures were organized in the universities and colleges to mark the initiatives of awareness for disaster reduction amongst youth & children. Launching of NIDM e-learning Self Study Programme (12th October 2011) On the occasion of "Disaster Reduction Day" on 12th October 2011, NIDM in collaboration with C-DAC launched e-learning self study programme on disaster management for general public as well as government officials and other stakeholders who have role and responsibility of managing disasters. These self study programmes on disaster management could be accessed by anyone from anywhere in the world as per user's convenience in flexi time free of cost. For details please visit http://nidmssp.in Training Programme on Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management (September 19-30, 2011) NIDM organized a "Training Programme on Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management" from September 19-30, 2011 especially for the officials of various African countries under Indo-African collaboration. 25 participants from 13 countries participated in the programme.

Mrs. Nimisha Madhvani, High Commissioner, Uganda High Commission and Shri Gurjit Singh, Additional Secretary The training also included visits to National Emergency Control Room, Ministry of Home Affairs, India Meteorological Department, National Disaster Response Force.
