The primary mission of the library is to support the training, educational and research programmes of the institute by providing physical and intellectual access to information, consistent with the present and the anticipated educational and research functions of the institute. In accordance with the objectives of the institute, the library aims to develop a comprehensive collection of documents useful for the faculty and the research community of the institute. The secondary mission is, to serve as a resource center of the country in the field of disaster management.

The library of NIDM having good collection of books, journals, reports, newspapers, government publications, video cassettes, CDs and training programs reading materials is regarded one of the best collections in the country, in the field of disaster management.

Library has a collection of about 2000 volumes of books mainly on disaster management. Library is also receiving more than 40 journals and magazines on regular basis. Some of them are:- Disasters, Disaster management & Response, Jr. of emergency management, Risk Management, International Jr. of mass emergencies and Disasters, Natural Hazards Observer, Landslides, Asian Journal of Geoinformatics (AIT Bangkok), Science , Current science, Journal of Indian Society of Remote Sensing- Photonirvachak, Mausam, etc.

The NIDM Library is active Member of Delhi Library Network (DELNET) ,Library database access thorough DELNET Also in World Wide.

The library offers services such as Reference Services, Referral Service, User Guidance Service, DELNET Service, Circulation Service, Bibliographic Service, Xerox Service etc. (Monday to Friday)
