Agra is famous as being home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World Taj Mahal.  The architectural splendors of the mausoleums, the fort and the palaces are a vivid reminder of the capital in the 16th and early 17th centuries.  While its significance as a political center ended with the transfer of the capital to Delhi in 1634 by Shah Jahan, its architectural wealth has secured its place on the international map.  A pleasant town with comparatively slow pace, Agra is known for its superb inlay work on marble and sand stone by craftsmen who are descendants of those who worked under the Mughals.  The city is also famous for its carpets, gold thread embroidery and leather shoes.

Taj Mahal on the bank of River Yamuna is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It was built by the fifth Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan in 1631 in memory of his second wife, Mumtaz Mahal, a Muslim Persian Princess.  It took 22 years and twenty thousand people to build this magnificent wonder of the world.

Agra Fort built by the great Emperor Akbar in 1565 A.D. is a masterpiece of design and construction.  Within the fort are a number of exquisite buildings, including the Moti Masjid, Diwani-E-Khaas and Msanman Burj, where the Emperor Shah Jahan died in imprisonment, beside Jahangirs place, Khass Mahal and the Sheesh Mahal.

ITMAD-UD-DAULA was build by the empress Noor Jehan as a memorial to her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg.  The monument is beautifully ornamented with pietra dura inlay and lattice work marble screens.

Sikandra Fort  12 km from Agra, is the tomb of Emperor Akbar.  Begun by the emperor himself and completed by his son Jehangir, this richly decorated structure is a quaint mixture of styles.

DELHI TOUR: Tour Price : USD 25 full day Tour / USD 15 half day Tour Per Person

One of the most fascinating aspects of Delhi is the “visibility” of its historic past.  Were it not for the demands of urbanization, large portions of the city could well be earmarked as archaeological parks.  This is because the rulers of successive dynasties between the 13th and the 17th centuries established seven cities in different parts of Delhi.  A chronological review of these cities fortunately also serves as a suitable itinerary for tourists and highlights the important monuments amongst the 1300 officially listed.

Qutab Minar: The origins of Qutab Minar are shrouded in controversy.  Some believe it was erected as a tower of victory to signify the beginning of the Muslims rule in India.  Others say it served as a minaret to the muezzins to call the faithful to prayer.  No one can, however, dispute that the tower is not only one of the finest monuments in India, but also in the world.

Red Fort: So called because of the red stone with which it is built, the Red Fort is one of the most magnificent palaces in the world.  India’s history, is also closely linked with this fort.  It was from its ramparts that the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, announced to the nation that India was free from colonial rule.

Purana Qila: is said to be constructed on the historic site of Indraprastha (900 BC) by Emperor Humayun and Sher Shah.  Covering a circuit of about a mile, the walls of the fort have three gates and are surrounded by a moat fed by the river Yamuna.

Jantar Mantar: At first sight, the Jantar Mantar appears like a gallery of modern art. It is, however, an observatory.  Sawai Jai Singh II of Jaipur (1699-1743), a keen astronomer and a noble in the Mughal Court, was dissatisfied by the errors of brass and metal astronomical instruments.

Humayun’s Tomb:: The Mughals brought with them a love for gardens, fountains and water.  The emperor’s grieving widow, Haji Begum, built Humayun’s Tomb the first mature example of Mughal architecture in India, in 1565 AD.

Jama Masjid: Work in the Jama Masjid mosque was begun in 1650 by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan to complement his palace at the Red Fort.  More than 5,000 workers toiled for six years to complete the largest mosque in India.

Safdarjund’s Tomb:: Representing the last phase of the Mughal style of architecture, Safdarjang’s Tomb stands in the center of an extensive garden.

India Gate: Built as a memorial to commemorate the 70,000 Indian soldiers killed in World War 1, India Gate was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1931.

Rashtrapati Bhawan: The official residence of President of India, Rashtrapati Bhawan is the highlight of Lutyen’s New Delhi.  Located in an area of 130 hectares, the palace has 340 rooms.

Rajghat: The mortal remains of Father of the Nation-Mahatma Gandhi were cremated on this spot on the west bank of the river Yamuna on the evening of January 31, 1948.

Lakshmi Narayan Mandir: Built in 1938, the temple is an ideal introduction to some of the gods of the Indian Pantheon.  Visitors can also watch priests performing ritualistic prayers.

JAIPUR TOUR: Tour Price USD 110 PER PERSON (MIN. 4 PAX)* Tour Start at 0530 AM from Hotel Lobby Tour Conclude at 2300 hrs.(Appox)

Settled in the rugged hills of the Aravallis, Jaipur is the pristine jewel in the desert sands of Rajasthan.  Jaipur is as remarkable for its marvelous architecture and town planning as it is for the lively spirit of the people who inhabit it.  The city presents a unique synthesis of culture that has to be experienced in order to be appreciated.  With its origin buried deep into the pages of history, the city still exudes a magical old world charm; an aroma of chivalry and romance is evident, despite having evolved into a city that is the hub of modern commercial activity in the region.  Telltale signs of the glorious past and regal splendor of the city lie strewn across with gay abandon.

Amber Fort: At a short distance of 11 kms from Jaipur, the Amber Fort Complex stands amidst wooded hills, with its forbidding ramparts reflected in the still waters of the Maota Lake below.  One of the finest examples of Rajput architecture, the original palace was built by Raja Man Singh and additions were made later by Sawai Jai Singh.  Within the palace are the Diwan-e-Aam or the “Hall of Private Audience” and the Sukh Niwas where a cool breeze blows across channels of water for the purpose of air-conditioning.  Here are the private chambers of the queens with windows having latticed screens so that the ladies could watch the proceedings of the royal court in privacy.  There is also the Jai Mandir or the “Temple of Victory”, with its famed Sheesh Mahal, the scintillating “Hall of Mirrors”.

Jaigarh Fort: The western skyline is dominated by the extensive walls, watch towers and gateways of the Jaigarh Fort.  It is one of the few military structures of medieval India preserved almost intact containing palaces, gardens open and covered reservoirs, a granary, an armory, a well-planned cannon foundry, several temples, a tall tower and the largest cannon the world – The Jain Ban.

Hawa Mahal or the “Palace of Winds” built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799 A.D. is characterized by elaborate and fanciful architecture.  The broad pyramid façade comprises of five storeys of semi octagonal overhanging windows with perforated screens, domes and spires.

Nahargarh Fort Perched atop a picturesque hill, the Nahargarh Fort offers a breathtaking view of the city below.  Initially built by Sawai Jain Singh in 1734 A.D it was enlarged and given its present shape by Sawai Madho Singh in1885 A.D. Decorative motifs in some of the rooms are delightful.
