Trainer Engineers
In each State/UT, 2 to 4 State Resource Institutes (leading engineering colleges) will be identified by the State Government depending upon size of the States. The State Resource Institutes will further identify four or more faculty members from the Department of Civil Engineering to be trained in aspects related to earthquake engineering. These faculty members will undergo a four weeks training programme at NRI
. The trained faculty members of SRI will be the nodal points in the state for earthquake risk mitigation activities and in achieving the objectives and targets of the programme. The SRIs will work with the State Administration to assist them to modify their building bylaws and to make it compliant to the BIS codes for seismically safe construction. These SRIs will train Municipal Engineers, Engineers of State PWD as well as Engineers in the private sector in seismically safe constructions. The SRIs will also provide technical expertise to the State Government in evaluating seismic safety of lifeline buildings and carrying out retrofitting of these buildings. The SRIs will support the States for developing a framework for mandatory registration/certification of civil engineers.
